GBHPC holds pigeon races in the spring and in the fall that typically range from 100 miles to 600 miles in distance. The older birds, usually one to six years in age, are raced in the months of May and June from distances of 100 to 600 miles. The young birds are raced in the year that they are born in September and October from distances of 100 miles to 300 miles. The release locations for most GBHPC races are in Western Massachusetts, Upstate New York, and Ohio. Visit our Race Schedule page to see the most recent GBHPC schedule
The words below by former GBHPC President William Bean, seem to have stood the test of time and are as true today as they were over 80 years ago
“I can honestly state that my association with the rank and file of this sport has been a real pleasure and given me many enjoyable hours. My experience in life, especially sports, is that one receives no more than one puts into it. Our sport and hobby have been more or less unknown to the average person, but each year more and more publicity is being given to it, and the sport is growing in members throughout the country.
With an eighty-mile front, a hard course, and a vigorous one, against real able competition, a winner in this Concourse is an accomplishment to be proud of. Greater Boston has always been recognized as having a large group of fanciers in the pigeon sport, let us therefore build upon this record and reputation.
The Concourse and every club affiliated, should be conducted in a thorough business-like manner and we must never allow our sport to be conducted in any other way. Politics should play no part in the sport.
Each club should elect delegates to the Concourse, who are individuals best fitted to conduct the affairs of the Concourse. Pigeon flying is a sport deserving of the best, so let us pull together and make it bigger and better.”
